Interventional Radiology
Interventional Radiology is a subspecialty of radiology that uses minimally invasive procedures guided by images of the body to diagnose and treat numerous types of medical conditions. Images created by radiology equipment are used to direct these procedures, which are usually performed using needles or small catheters. The images provide a "road map" that allows the specialized Interventional Radiologist to guide these tiny instruments through the body to the area of interest. Interventional Radiology procedures rarely require general anesthesia or hospitalization and often involve less pain and smaller incisions than traditional surgery.
